The Minimum Data Set (MDS) is a comprehensive assessment system that evaluates a resident's physical, psychological, and social functioning. It includes detailed information on a patient’s health, such as cognitive and physical abilities, mood, behaviors, and medical conditions.
The primary purpose of the MDS is to help ensure that residents receive appropriate care and to determine reimbursement levels for facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid.
